Portlaoise, Ireland’s Dirtiest Town!
A study, carried out by An Taisce for Irish Business Against Litter, has ranked the busy midlands town of Portlaoise as Ireland’s dirtiest town out of the 53 towns and cities surveyed, the town has taken a dramatic fall from its number fifteen place in last year’s survey, but An Taisce have found that there has been further improvement in the cleanliness of Irish towns nationwide. Carlow was announced tidiest town at a ceremony in Dublin on Monday, the town was presented with a plaque by Dr Tom Cavanagh, chairman of IBAL, he criticised the government, local and urban district county councils for failing to fully tackle the issue of litter, which shows slow signs of reducing. Dr Tom Cavanagh said that Town Managers and Councillors should be going out to see what is going on throughout towns with regards to litter. IBAL now wants people to take photographs of litter black spots in their area and send the pictures to them, so that they can send them on to the relevant local authorities.
