Portlaoise 4th’s joined the Leinster J4 League Section C – Division 1 recently replacing Millmount  and fulfilling the fixtures scheduled for the rest of the league. Their first game was on Saturday at Togher against a Parkmore team. From the start it was a tough encounter with both sets of forwards attempting to gain advantage. The match flowed from side to side with both teams defences standing firm from the opposition pressure and the score board remained at zero for the first 20 minutes. Then Parkmore  broke through the Portlaoise defence took full advantage to cross the line for a try.  Parkmore added the conversion. Portlaoise restarted and applied pressure from the off but Parkmore defence stood firm. Then Parkmore capitalised on a defensive error by Portlaoise to score a try under the posts. This they converted.

The half time the score was Portlaoise 0 – Parkmore 14.

The second half began with a flourish. Portlaoise dominated from the start and were rewarded with a try inside the first 5 minutes of the second half. This was unconverted to have the score at Portlaoise 5 – Parkmore 14. The game flowed from side to side but it was Parkmore’s superiority which prevailed and they added a further converted try and a penalty to bring the final score to Portlaoise 5 – Parkmore 24.
