Jedward to Represent Ireland in This Year’s Eurovision Song Contest
John and Edward Grimes, well known for their blonde quiffs, first appeared as John & Edward on the sixth series of the X Factor in 2009, in a phenomenon described as “the Jedward paradox”. They came sixth in the show. Jedward are now managed by Ashley Tabor and their former X Factor mentor Louis Walsh. Jedward’s debut single “Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)” was released on 1 February 2010. They previously performed the song as a duet with Vanilla Ice at Britain’s 2010 National Television Awards on 20 January that year. Released by Sony Music, it reached number two on the UK Singles Chart and number one on the Irish Singles Chart. Jedward released their second single, a cover of Blink-182’s ‘All the Small Things’ on 16 July and their debut album Planet Jedward on 26 July. Planet Jedward reached number one on the Irish Albums Chart and number 17 on the UK Albums Chart. It was also certified platinum in Northern Ireland. Jedward are currently embarking on their first solo tour, a sold-out 75-date tour of both Ireland and the UK called The Planet Jedward Tour. The tour began on 6 April 2010 and it is scheduled to run until 27 April 2011.
The erratic duo have now been chosen to represent Ireland at the Eurovision after triumphing in a public vote last Friday night. Jedward beat four other contestants in Friday night’s Late Late Show with their amazing song ‘Lipstick’. The brothers will perform at Germany for the famous song contest in May.
Jedward have insisted that they are taking their involvement in Eurovision seriously. The 2011 Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Dusseldorf on May 14.
