Talk & Information
Facebook Uncovered

Tuesday, 07/02/2012 @ 7.00 PM
(Thurles Library in The Source, Thurles)

On Tuesday 7th February, a presentation for parents on Internet safety will be held in Thurles Library in the Source at 7 p.m. Focusing on Facebook, this presentation will give parents an overview of it and advise what they can do to maximise the safe use of it by their children.

Presented by Amanda Chambers, who has over 20 years experience in information technologies and who is parent to 3 teenagers, the talk is aimed at the “lay person” – no previous IT knowledge is required! Amanda will look at why young people use Facebook, privacy settings and what you think you show the world vs what you are showing the world. Handouts will be provided.

Tuesday 7th February is ‘Safer Internet Day’ and this year the slogan is “Discover the digital world together … safely!” While tech savvy young people can teach their elders how to use new technologies, parents and grandparents can draw on their life experiences to advise younger generations on how to stay safe online, as they discover the digital world together. Come along to the ‘Facebook Uncovered’ talk, Tuesday 7th February at 7 p.m. in Thurles Library. Admission is free.

This event is presented by Europe Direct Information Centre under the ‘Digital Agenda for Europe’ initiative. It has received funding from the European Commission.
