National day of protests against Household Tax
The Campaign Against Household & Water Taxes (CAHWT) is calling on the public to come out and join their nearest protest activity this Saturday February 25th.
As registration figures for the tax remain low with 93% still boycotting, CAHWT believes its campaign is gaining huge momentum and that the mood is changing in the country against ongoing austerity measures.
Tommy Hogan, CAHWT spokesperson and Waterford campaign member said: “We call on people to get involved in this growing movement against unjust taxation. The dogs in the street know this tax is not for services but is another donation to the bondholders.
“Meeting after meeting is hearing tales of disappointment and betrayal that the government is continuing this disastrous policy of bailouts for the wealthy and hardship for ordinary folk. 1,000 people have attended meetings in Waterford alone on this issue, an unprecendented number, and thousands more in other counties,” he said.
“We can force the government back if we stick together in a united boycott campaign that would see hundreds of thousands — maybe a million — not registering by St Patricks Day. If we do that, we can go all the way.”
Malachy Steenson, CAHWT Dublin and ACRA member said: “The government has broken faith by taxing the family home. More charges on property and water are on the way which would bring this levy to over €1,000 per annum. People should use this issue as their referendum on the government’s broken promises.
“There are over 40 protest actions organised around the country on Saturday. We call on people to connect with their nearest one, which are advertised on nohouseholdtax.org or through our 1890-98 98 00 helpine.”

Fál Carrach – meet 12 midday at the crossroads for speeches and then a protest march through the town.
Monaghan:
Car cavalcade throughout county towns to hand out leaflets.Leaving from Monaghan town @ 10am from Peter’s Lake carpark via Clones; Ballybay; Carrickmacross and on to Castleblaney and then back to Monaghan. Supporters from each town will be giving out leaflets just before cavalcade arrives.
