‘Drive’ to Woo Tourists for Laois

Several tourism organisations from around Ireland – including The Gandon Inn in Emo – joined Tourism Ireland at The Goodwood Revival, which took place recently in Chichester, in southern England.

The Goodwood Revival is one of the largest vintage car festival events in Great Britain. It attracts about 150,000 visitors each year, offering a fantastic platform to spread the good news about car touring around the island of Ireland. This was the first time that Tourism Ireland had a presence at the event.

Vanessa Markey, Tourism Ireland’s head of Great Britain, said:Great Britain is Ireland’s largest and most important tourism market and Tourism Ireland is actively promoting longer-stay holidays in the GB market, encouraging people to come and discover the island of Ireland by car. Those visitors who prefer to use a car on holidays tend to stay longer, spend more and are more likely to visit more than one region.

“Our attendance at this year’s Goodwood Revival event was also a wonderful opportunity to highlight ‘The Gathering Ireland 2013’ and the fantastic programme of events planned for next year. This autumn, Tourism Ireland is undertaking an extensive programme of promotions in GB, and elsewhere around the world, to highlight ‘The Gathering’. We are extending an invitation to the tens of millions of people across the world who have ancestral links with Ireland to visit next year, as well as to the many others who feel linked by friendship, business or education and to those who simply hold an affection for what Ireland has given to the world.”
