Velux Launches National Photography Competition

VELUX calls on all ‘Lovers of Light’ and offers trip of a lifetime to the Arctic Circle

Daylight expert and roof window manufacturer VELUX has launched a creative photography competition across the UK and Ireland.  Named Lovers of Light, the competition celebrates daylight and allows photographers of all abilities to share their special moments.

As daylight becomes ever more precious in the darker winter months, Lovers of Light invites amateur and professional photographers alike to capture a moment that brings natural light to life.

One winning photograph will be chosen by a panel of expert judges and the lucky entrant will experience the trip of a lifetime – four nights for four people at the uniquely designed Treehotel nestled in the treetops of Sweden’s magnificent Boreal Forest in the Arctic Circle.

Whether you’re a budding photographer or simply enjoy taking pictures with your camera phone, VELUX welcomes entries of all levels to share their creative representations of daylight in everyday life.

Images must be submitted before 28th February 2013 and the lucky prize winner will be revealed on 31st March 2013.

Keith Riddle, Managing Director of VELUX; Joe Tree, founder of Blipfoto – the online photo sharing community; Dr. Russell Foster, Professor at Oxford University and daylight expert; Sarah Butterfield, artist; and Lisa Allen, editor of Grand Designs Magazine will collectively select a winner based on the best, most creative use of daylight in a single shot.

Keith Riddle, Managing Director of VELUX said: “Daylight is often underestimated but we wanted to create a vehicle for people to stop, think and celebrate natural daylight in its simplest form.  We hope the competition inspires people to bring light to life and illustrate the ways in which natural light can affect each and every one of us, each and every day.”

Everyone who submits a qualifying image will also be in with a chance of appearing as part of an animated short film made using only still photography.
