Limerick to Dublin “Walking to End Austerity” – 10th -18th May

he purpose:

The aim of this walk is to let people know there is an alternative to austerity and the kind of governance we’ve had to endure in recent times. At Sli Nios Fearr, we’ve been working very hard since Martin Critten did the 130 mile walk to Dublin this time last year. In the background we’ve been developed a platform on which good honest politics can be maintained with the introduction of our Citizen’s Charter. And, we are busy too in amassing a clear platform of reform and economic policy which is steadily building on our website.

Currently we have a Taoiseach on 44k more than the French President, that kind of thing screams at us, that for a country of 4 million something has gone seriously wrong in the way we do business; and questions the very ethics as to why people get into politics. When the whole country is facing a mountain of unsustainable debt there has been absolutely no leadership displaying any kind of morality? That’s the kind of country we live in presently, an out right plutocracy, and there’s little difference in the other parties once they get in to power. This movement is determined to change that, we are offering that alternative everyone is looking for and we are walking to Dublin to bring that message to every town we pass through. We want to show people that there are new ideas, new faces and a new attitude towards governing this Republic, and in supporting Sli Nios Fearr, we can continue to build and recruit for the Local and European elections. We all really have to make a concerted effort now if we want to see a viable alternative to the old worn out parties of the past. It’s time to stop the talk now and walk the walk.

This year Martin will be joined by a small group of hardy walkers, Peter O’Louglin, from Cork, Zinaida Nourreddine from Parteen Co Limerick, Patrick Hannon from Limerick City and during the stages by other party supporters equally determined to leaflet the towns centres as they pass through.
