New Mazda6 Wins Irish ‘Family Car of the Year’ Award

The new Mazda6 was named the ‘Family Car of the Year’ during the Continental Irish Car of the Year Awards 2014 gala event held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santry today. Held annually, the awards have five categories plus an overall winner which are judged by members of the Irish Motoring Writers Association (IMWA).
New Mazda6 beat off the competition for the Family Car of the Year title, as the 28 IMWA judges assessed each vehicle for its innovation and safety, space, comfort, build quality, driving quality and value for money.
Gerry Murphy, Chairman of the IMWA, commented: “As well as looking fantastic, the new Mazda6 possesses attributes that make an unbeatable combination. Both the saloon and tourer are spacious and comfortable, delivering a rare blend of performance, excellent economy and low emissions – without compromising the fun-to-drive nature that is at the core of Mazda’s philosophy.”
The 2014 awards judges faced a tougher task this year as the long-list of eligible vehicles totaled an unprecedented 51 cars, compared with 36 last year, with nine models in the family car category. By late October the original field of candidates had been reduced to 16 for the short-list.

“Mazda’s ‘defy convention’ approach to automotive engineering has enabled us to significantly improve fuel economy and reduce emissions – creating award-winning vehicles like the new Mazda6 which present Irish customers with an attractive ownership proposition that appeals equally to the heart and the head.
“Featuring our Japanese brand’s ground-breaking SKYACTIV technology and its KODO-Soul of Motion styling, the new Mazda6 saloon and tourer have now accumulated a total of 189 awards globally, since launch,” adds Howarth.
Mazda6 buyers can select from nine saloon and tourer models, with prices ranging from €28,745 to €38,895 on-the-road (OTR), fuel economy from only 4.2l/100km (combined cycle) and CO2 emissions from 108g/km, without having to downsize engine capacity or compromise performance.
There is a choice of petrol or diesel power (from 145 to 175ps), and six-speed manual or automatic transmissions – depending on model. All the SKYACTIV powertrains are fitted with Mazda’s unique fuel-saving idle-stop system, called i-stop.
New Mazda6 cars are available to purchase through the new ‘Mazda Choices’ flexible finance programme, enabling customers to drive away a brand new car from €366 per month. The range of bespoke Personal Contract Plans (PCP) offers buyers a choice of deposit (from as little as 0% or up to 30%) and repayments periods (25, 37 or 49 months), plus customers have the security of a guaranteed future value for their new car.
