New TG4 TV Programme looks at childbirth from male point of view
Lads mar Dads” is a newly created format for TG4, funded by BAI, from Good Company Productions, which will be hitting our screens every Sunday night at 21.30, starting 16th February 2014.
This innovative series takes a look at what fatherhood is really like for the first timers in Ireland today. Will they be the metrosexual fathers with the man-bag on hand at all times, ready to change a nappy in any situation, or will they lapse into the traditional role of the Dad and leave it to “those who know best”?
In a world in which we are bombarded with commercial messaging and social networks –How do today’s new fathers really cope with the biggest change in their living conditions, ever!
Each week various experts discuss all things Daddy and Baby, from childrens’ allowance to the baby with reflux, to the couple planning their first night out on the town since the baby was born.
We’ll have some words of wisdom from the female contingent, with Doctors Barbara Kearns and Emma Kilgarriff, Social Worker Julie O’Donnell and Psychologist Louise Pembroke all offering valuable advice to our 3 lads.
But the Dads will have their say too, with well known dads Nicky Byrne, Ray d’Arcy, Bernard Dunne and Dara Ó Cinnéide telling us how it was for them and what the lads should expect.
Filming takes place all over the country. Our first lad, Mícheál Ó Draighneáin, from Ballincollig, Co. Cork, knows what it’s like to be a Dad, but he has a totally new experience in store – triplets. Donegal man, Kevin Ferry is nervously looking forward to the experience, while Richie Ó hEadhra in Ferns Co. Wexford thinks he’ll still have plenty of time at the weekends for a game of golf and a few pints.
Join us as we see if the 3 lads are cut out for the challenge. Who will rise to the occasion, raise the bar, change the nappies and powder and cream. Who will become Dads, and who, will still be Lads.
Fáilte go – “Lads mar Dads”

Preas Ráiteas
Ná bac leis an máithreachas, is í an atharthacht a bheas á scrúdú an uair seo! Feicimid conas a n-éireoidh le triúr fear óg agus iad ag dul i ngleic leis an athrú is mó ina saol riamh.
Sraith clár faisnéise é “Lads mar Dads” ina fheicfimid dul chun cinn triúr lads thar tréimhse ocht mí, agus iad ag ullmhú le haghaidh teacht an linbh nua. Good Company Productions atá i mbun léirithe do TG4, le tacaíocht ón BAI.
Craolfar an clár oíche Dé Domhnach ag 21.30, ag tosú an 16 Feabhra.
San lá atá inniu ann, is iondúil go mbíonn an méid céanna oibre á dhéanamh ag na fir agus a bhíonn ag na mná maidir le cúram leanaí, ach conas a n-éireoidh leis na Lads? – An mbeidh an manbag ullamh acu agus iad tuillteanach clúidín a athrú cibé áit ina bhfuil siad?
Leis an eolas ar fad atá amuigh ansin, idir cláir teilifíse, cláir raidió, aipeanna agus leabhair, an mbeidh na Lads in ann an t-eolas sin a scagadh, na rudaí cearta a phiocadh amach agus neamhaird a dhéanamh ar an aineolas.
Beidh mná na tíre ag tabhairt comhairle do na Lads, lena n-áirítear na dochtúirí Barbara Kearns agus Emma Kilgarriff, an t-oibrí sóisialta Julie O’Donnell agus an síceolaí Louise Pembroke.
Ach beidh na fir ann chomh maith, ag insint a scéalta féin maidir leis an atharthacht, lena n-áirítear Nicky Byrne, Ray d’Arcy, Bernard Dunne agus Dara Ó Cinnéide – agus beidh roinnt leideanna acu do na Lads.
Rinneamar scannánú ar fud na tíre. Is é Mícheál Ó Draighneáin, as Baile an Chollaigh, Co. Chorcaí an chéad lad. Tá a fhios go maith ag Mícheál céard a bhíonn i gceist le páiste a bheith aige, ach scéal eile atá i gceist an uair seo – tríríní. Tá fear Dhún na nGall Kevin Ferry ag súil go mór leis, ach tá sé neirbhíseach ag an am céanna. Beidh Richie Ó hEadhra, atá ina chónaí i bhFearna, Co. Loch Garman, sona sásta chomh fada agus is féidir leis cluiche gailf a imirt go fóill agus cúpla pionta a bheith aige ag an deireadh seachtaine.
Bígí linn lena fheiceáil an mbeidh na Lads in ann don dúshlán ollmhór atá os a gcomhair. Cé a bheidh ullamh na clúidíní a athrú leis an púdar agus an uachtar ina láimh acu?
Cé acu a bheidh ina Dads, agus cé a bheidh fós ina Lads.
