Audi Unveils New S4 And E-Tron Concept
Audi, Ireland’s leading premium car brand, has unveiled the new Audi S4 and S4 Avant, and a new Audi e-tron concept car, at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, the world’s largest motor show.
Sporty and high-tech: the new Audi S4 and S4 Avant
From the A4 series, the new sporty S4 and S4 Avant models combine powerful engineering, quattro performance, excellence in design and ground-breaking infotainment technology.
Revealed for the first time at the International Motor Show, the S4 and S4 Avant are equipped with a newly developed V6 engine with petrol direct injection and turbocharging. The 3.0 TFSI engine has an output of 354 hp with a 0 to 100km/h time of just 4.7 seconds, outstripping its predecessor in terms of power and torque. Despite the improved performance, the S4 consumes less than 7.4 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres, with 170 g/km CO2.
With lightweight electromechanical power steering, the S4 and S4 Avant’s newly developed five-link suspension allows high performance on all terrains, with variable speed-dependent dynamic steering as an option.
The S4 and S4 Avant feature striking exterior design, with a separating edge on the tailgate for targeted aerodynamics. On the interior, both S4 models feature the Audi virtual cockpit and MMI navigation plus infotainment system.
Both models feature a comprehensive range of driver assistance technologies. The predictive efficiency assistant supports the driver in saving fuel, for example with gear change prompts. The Audi active lane assist helps the driver stay in lane. The adaptive cruise control Stop&Go including traffic jam assist can take over acceleration, deceleration, and steering up to 65 km/h, easing the strain on the driver in heavy flowing traffic.
Audi will be supplying both S4 variants from 2016.
Electric driving is a pleasure, not a compromise: Audi e-tron quattro concept
Audi also presented the e-tron quattro concept, a foretaste of the production version of a fully electric SUV scheduled to come to market in early 2018. The car is the company’s statement about the future of electric mobility: it is sporty, efficient and suitable for everyday use.
The Audi e-tron quattro concept uses the power of three electric motors: One electric motor drives the front axle, the two others act on the rear axle. When the driver floors the right pedal, the Audi e-tron quattro concept sprints from a standstill to 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds and quickly reaches the electronically governed top speed of 210km/h.
The car’s large lithium-ion battery is integrated into the floor of the passenger compartment. It gives the e-tron a balanced axle load distribution and a low centre of gravity – prerequisites for its dynamic handling. The battery’s capacity of 95kWh enables a range of more than 500 kilometres and the car is equipped with all the technologies that Audi has developed for piloted driving: radar sensors, a video camera, ultrasonic sensors and a laser scanner. These technologies are also nearly ready for use in production vehicles.
The all-new Audi A4 saloon
The all-new Audi A4 saloon is significant advancement in design, technology and engineering. Thanks to lightweight construction and an intelligent material mix, the Audi A4 is now up to 120 kilograms lighter than the previous model making it the lightest and most fuel efficient in its class.
The new Audi A4 and A4 Avant will be launched with seven engines: three TFSI and four TDI. Their power output has increased significantly and ranges from 150 hp to 272 hp, but fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 21%. The A4 2.0 TDI ultra has fuel consumption of just 3.7 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions of just 95 grams per kilometre; the figures for the corresponding Avant model are 3.8 l/100 km and 99 g/km CO2.
The all-new Audi A4 will launch in Ireland in November
