2015 IPB Pride Of Place Awards To Be Streamed Live Online

The IPB Pride of Place Awards ceremony will be streamed live online this year, organisers have announced.

 

Up to 1,000 people from all over the island of Ireland will gather in Treacy’s West County Hotel, Ennis, Co. Clare, on Saturday, November 14th, for a ceremony hosted by Clare County Council and Cooperation Ireland, which runs the competition north and south of the border. It is the first time in the 13-year history of the all-island competition that the same county has hosted the ceremony two years running.

 

More than 100 groups nominated by local authorities all over the island of Ireland are participating in this year’s competition, which is regarded as Ireland’s most prestigious all-island community awards.

 

“We are delighted this year’s ceremony is returning to Ennis, which has a proud tradition in this competition. Co-operation Ireland is calling on Pride of Place participating communities and groups to encourage members of the Irish Diaspora to log on to www.prideofplace.ie or www.clare.ie to view the live streaming coverage of the event,” stated Tom Dowling, Chairman of the Pride of Place Initiative.

 

IPB’s Chief Executive Officer, Ronan Foley, commented; “On behalf of our local authority Members we are delighted to sponsor this year’s competition and help Co-operation Ireland, Ireland’s peace building charity, to continue to host these awards as one of its key community initiatives. The live streaming of this event is another step in reaching of to all those involved in making their communities a better place to live and work.”

 

Pride of Place Coordinator in Clare, Philomena O’Connell commented: “The event will bring together community representatives and local authorities from right throughout the island of Ireland in a celebration of community spirit. Irish people living abroad will be able to monitor the progress of their local participating community groups online.”

 

The main category winners in the 2014 IPB Pride of Place competition were Glenfarne, Leitrim (Pop: 0–250); Ardmore, Waterford, and Belcarra, Mayo (Pop: 250–750); Tydavnet, Monaghan (Pop: 750–1500); Kenmare, Kerry (Pop: 1500–4000); Cloughjordan, Tipperary (Eco Initiative); Festina Lente, Wicklow (Community Innovation); New Ross Allotments & Men’s Shed, Wexford (Community Health); Battery Heights, Westmeath (Housing Estates); Fanad, Donegal (Islands & Coastal Communities); Mulhuddart, Fingal Council Area (Urban Neighbourhoods); Clones, Monaghan, Community Wellness Empowerment Leadership & Life Skills, Limerick City, and Glasthule Buildings, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council Area (Special Award); Clarawood Estate, Belfast (Cities Pop: Under 1,000); Eco Mattress Recycling Ltd, Dublin (Eco Initiative: Cities); Something Special, Derry/ Londonderry ((Innovation: Cities); Armagh Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership (Urban Neighbourhoods: Cities); Clare County Council (Council Community Engagement).
