15 year old in contention for prestigious motorsports award
A 15-year-old schoolboy has been named among three finalists in contention for one of Irish motorsport’s most prestigious awards.
Jordan Dempsey, from Mullingar, was nominated for the Dunlop Young Racing Driver of the Year Award 2015 for his impressive performances on the track this season.
He is joined on the list by fellow talented youngsters James Roe (17) and Jake Byrne (21). The winner will pick up the historic Sexton Trophy and will also receive support valued at €50,000 to boost their motorsport career.
The Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Award and the historic Sexton Trophy are awarded to the individual who has demonstrated the most potential to represent Ireland at home and internationally both on the track as well as in the public eye.
The three finalists were drawn from six candidates who were nominated during the course of the year. They were selected from a range of track racing disciplines and underwent a rigorous selection process in front of a judging panel made up from representatives of the racing community and the media.
The overall winner will be announced at the Dunlop Champions of Irish Motorsport awards ceremony which will take place on Wednesday, December 2nd. The Award, which is valued at €50,000, is supported by Dunlop and Sport Ireland.
The three finalists for the Dunlop Young Racing Driver of the Year are:
Jordan Dempsey (aged 15) Mullingar, Co Westmeath
Jake Byrne (aged 21) Blackwood, Co Kildare
James Roe (aged 17) Sallins, Co Kildare
This award is presented annually and is supported by Dunlop, Sport Ireland and Motorsport Ireland.
