WIT Information Evening On How To Upskill For Work And Life

People thinking about study from Waterford’s neighbouring counties invited to the information evening on part-time and postgraduate study options at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT)

WIT is holding an event on Tuesday, 17 May aimed at prospective students for WIT part-time and postgraduate programmes including courses funded under the Government’s ICTSkills/Springboard programme.

The majority of WIT’s students hail from across the south east. The event will be of interest to graduates living in neighbouring counties considering post-graduate study, and people interested in part-time and short courses within easy commuting distance of home.

Prospective students can find out on the evening about study options available range from short courses to a wide range of postgraduate courses and part-time flexible undergraduate options allowing people to work towards major awards such as higher certificates or degrees.

The event runs from 5.30pm-7.30pm and there is no need to register for this free event taking place in the main building on WIT’s main campus on the Cork Road in Waterford city – just turn up on the evening.

With the closing dates for many postgraduate programmes approaching the evening is a great opportunity for prospective postgraduate students to meet subject experts and discuss their eligibility for postgraduate study. Staff from the WIT Registry will be on hand to guide prospective students on the process of applying for postgraduate courses at WIT along with fees etc.

Neil Quinlan, Head of Department of Lifelong Learning explains that at WIT people can study a broad range of topics at their own pace to upskill for work and for life.

“For part-time undergraduate and shorter courses people apply directly to the college and can typically apply right up to September,” he says.

“This year in addition to the well- established programmes in Business, Engineering, Computing and Science we have new short course offerings in Website Development for Small Business, Practical and Strategic Public Relations, Fitness Instruction and a range of shorter courses in Healthcare including Pallative Care for Carers and Care of the Older Adult. Shorter courses are ideal for people focus their learning on particular skills they wish to acquire.”

Denis Harrington, Head of Graduate Business at Waterford Institute of Technology says there are many options in WIT’s School of Business.

“We have new offerings in areas such as lean and operational excellence, management, finance and marketing. Students can take many of our courses on a part-time basis or if they prefer, they can take individual modules from any of our programmes. Our programmes are designed with strong industry input where industry experts contribute in delivering content, sharing their expertise and increasing networking opportunities for students.”

He encourages prospective students to attend the event at WIT from 5.30pm-7.30pm on Tuesday, 17 May, or a WIT event from 5pm-7pm at Dungarvan Enterprise Centre on Wednesday, 18 May.

“Prospective students will have the opportunity to learn more about our range of full and part-time programmes and will also meet with staff who can answer questions regarding the curriculum, student life, and networking opportunities available at WIT.”
