Tenants Struggle to get Deposits back from Landlords
Almost two-thirds of tenants (60%) said they have found it difficult to get their deposits returned from landlords, according to a survey by Red C who surveyed over 1,000 people over the age of 18. There’s 40% less rental space available than there was this time last year, while rents have increased by over 8% nationally, and much more in cities, according to Daft.ie.
USI is urging anyone with spare rooms to rent them out to students. As a solution to the student accommodation crisis, the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) will launch their ‘Homes for Study’ Campaign on the 2nd August outside the USI offices in Portview House, Ringsend.
As part of the Homes for Study Campaign, USI will launch their partnership with Deposify, an Irish start-up offering a deposit management service for landlords and tenants.

Deposify is backed by Bank of Ireland and Delta Partners and its Founder and CEO, Jon Bayle, is a former corporate finance solicitor at Matheson law firm.

The Union of Students in Ireland will also re-launch its website homes.usi.ie, a room rental registration website for students looking for accommodation and for landlords who can lease vacant rooms to students during the college term tax-free up to the value of €12,000 annually.
