World RX Drivers Pledge Support To Men’s Health Movember Campaign

The FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy and RX2 International Series presented by Cooper Tires will support the global Movember health campaign, which kicks off today (1 November). Movember’s South Africa campaign will activate at the upcoming Gumtree World RX of South Africa, which takes place at the Killarney International Raceway in just nine days’ time (10-12 November).

World RX drivers Timo Scheider and Topi Heikkinen have signed up as “Mo Bro” ambassadors alongside RX2 drivers Dan Rooke, Thomas Holmen, Guillaume De Ridder and Simon Wago Syversen. All six drivers will shave today [1 November] and then grow a moustache as part of the #MoBroChallenge for the remainder of November to help promote the month-long campaign.

The rallycross drivers will challenge other Mo Bros to video their shave in a weird and wonderful location, to win five pairs of tickets to the World RX season-closer in Cape Town. A Movember stand will be present at the Killarney International Raceway to help promote the campaign further to fans attending the rallycross weekend.

Germany’s Timo Scheider, who drivers for the MJP Team Austria, explained: “Men’s Health is an extremely important issue and one that I wanted to help promote on a global scale through my participation with World RX. Prostate and testicular cancer rates are increasing and now three quarters of suicides are men – this is an alarming statistic and something that everyone needs to be more aware of. Movember does a fantastic job of helping raise this awareness and if growing a moustache can help in some way then I’m more than happy to get onboard as a MoBro while competing at Cape Town RX!”

“I’m really looking forward to ‘Going Mo’ this month,” added RX2 driver, De Ridder. “Prostate and testicular cancer often don’t receive the same public attention as some other forms of cancer, so anything we can do to raise that awareness can only be positive. It’s great to be involved in this initiative, and to anybody else considering taking part in Movember, what are you waiting for? Let’s all grow a mo to save a bro!”

Kai Linder, Content Manager for Movemeber South Africa, concluded: “Having one of the greatest motorsport spectacles in the world, in Cape Town this year, is fantastic. The fact that some of the drivers also want to make a difference and support the Movember campaign, is unbelievably cool. World RX has a huge fan base, predominantly male, and all of them will be receiving the Movember message this year. We could not be happier to have the World RX team on board and look forward to working with them to help men live longer!”

Movember is the only charity tackling men’s health on a global scale. The campaign – which encourages men to grow a moustache to raise the profile of men’s health – is addressing the biggest heath issues facing men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention. Movember is independent of government funding and in its 13 years existence, the project has funded more than 1,200 men’s health projects around the world.
