All I want for Christmas is you tools – Practical presents top the Christmas wish list for tradespeople this year
Not sure what to buy the tradesperson in your life? New research from Chadwicks Group reveals that practical presents top the Christmas gift list for tradespeople. The survey of 100 tradespeople by Ireland’s leading builders’ merchants reveals that 89% of tradespeople have received a gift related to their trade in the past and almost 4 in 10 (39%) are hoping to see new tools or workwear under the tree on December 25th*.
The top five most wanted gifts by tradies this Christmas are:
- Bluetooth speakers (67%)
- Hearing protection headphones with Bluetooth and AM/FM (47%)
- A headtorch (46%)
- Tool organisers (45%)
- A paint brush set (40%)
Unsurprisingly, socks top the ‘worst gift’ list for 54% of tradespeople, followed by chocolate/sweets (46%), and ties (42%).

Leaving nothing to chance, an overwhelming 97% of tradespeople polled say they drop hintsto friends and family ahead of Christmas. Almost two thirds (64%) are less than subtle simplytelling people what they want and 51% intentionally leaving websites open for others to see. 14% even admit to complaining about old items that need replacing in the hopes of getting an upgrade.
Secret Santa isn’t reserved for the office
Secret Santa is just as popular on-site as it is in offices, with 92% of tradespeople taking part in gift exchanges with their colleagues. Tradespeople are also generous with their gifting, with 27% spending between €21-40 and 69% spending over €40 on Secret Santa.
