10 students from across Ireland awarded scholarships through Bord na Móna’s Pathways to the Future programme

• Each scholarship includes a monetary grant, work placement opportunity, site visits to Bord na Móna projects and a Bord na Móna assigned mentor
• The programme aims to support students looking to pursue a career in areas aligned to Bord na Móna’s focus on climate solutions
• Applications are also welcome from across the country for Bord na Móna’s Scholarship Pathway for the upcoming academic year

28 February 2024: 10 students have been chosen by Bord na Móna to join the scholarship strand of its ‘Pathways to the Future’ programme, launched last year to provide work experience and financial supports for individuals interested in pursuing studies and building a career in climate solutions and renewable energy.

The ‘Pathways to the Future’ programme consists of three different pathways: a Graduate Pathway, a Scholarship Pathway and an Apprenticeship Pathway. All three of the pathways provide opportunities for young people to work on the front line of climate action and sustainable economic development.

The Scholarship Pathway specifically will have places for ten students in third level education across Ireland. The cost of studies and student life can present a challenge for some students navigating third level education, so Bord na Móna has created a dedicated fund to provide financial support through its ten scholarships.

Applicants to the Scholarship scheme were required to submit a business case on a Net Zero economy in Ireland. Eligible candidates needed to be enrolled in undergraduate studies (level 8), masters or doctoral studies.

The scholarship recipients including Julieta Rubis, Emily Lawless-Greene, Anmol Barigidad, Alex Gisca, Hannah Murphy, Oisin Spain, Joe McDonagh, Leanne Hickey, Hafiz Muhammed Farooq and Aoife Gaughan, were recently acknowledged at a special event in Bord na Móna’s Newbridge HQ by Chief Executive Tom Donnellan and Head of HR and Corporate Affairs, Sharon Doyle.
